Why 70% of Jobs Will Change by 2030 (And What It Means for Your Family)

Hi Future Proofers,

Here at FPP, we track the smartest insights from the world's leading experts and translate them into practical steps for families.

Today, we’re diving into a powerful conversation between Bernard Mah and Anish Ramen, LinkedIn’s Chief Economic Opportunity Officer.

The main takeaway?

Well, the subject line of this email says it all:

Yes, as per Mr. Ramen, an astonishing SEVENTY percent of the skills required for today’s jobs will have changed.

It’s a staggering shift.

Unfortunately, while many will be caught off guard, you and your child don't have to be.

If you act now, that is.

Let’s break down what’s happening, and more importantly, what it means for your child’s future.

The Big Idea: Skills, Not Job Titles, Will Define the Winners

To make it as simple as possible, parents need to stop thinking in terms of, “what job should my child prepare for?”

Instead, we need to be asking, “which skills will allow my child to adapt and thrive, no matter what the future looks like?”

In summary:

Jobs are turning into tasks, not static roles.

AI will automate routine knowledge and physical work.

On the very bright side, in our opinion, is the fact that what remains will be deeply human work: innovation, imagination, leadership, and emotional intelligence.

But by far and away, the biggest thing you should take away from today’s issue is that this shift is already happening

This transformation will happen in four phases (again, it’s already started):

  1. Disruption: AI tools like Copilot and Gemini are already common at work.

  2. Job Changes: 70% of job skills will shift by 2030.

  3. New Jobs Created: Think roles that don’t even exist yet — like “Prompt Engineer” today.

  4. New Economy: The Innovation Economy, where human ideas drive growth.

Your child won’t "choose a career" the way we used to.

They’ll build a flexible skill portfolio which will, most likely, change and grow across multiple roles, industries, and even types of work.

Look, schools are not moving fast enough. If you wait for the system to adjust, your child will be left behind.

That’s why it’s crucial you move fast and take the lessons you learn here very seriously.

Again, the future can and will be very bright for those that prepare for the future changes that we’re racing towards.

Family Exercise: The Three Buckets

Want a simple way to help prepare your child, and yourself, for the future?

Anish Ramen suggests you divide daily tasks into three buckets:

  • Bucket 1: Tasks AI will automate (e.g., summarizing notes, data entry)

  • Bucket 2: Tasks you do with AI (e.g., prompting, idea generation)

  • Bucket 3: Tasks only humans can do (e.g., building trust, innovating, critical thinking)

Start teaching your child to recognize the difference.

Why?

Because the future belongs to those who master Bucket 3, but are also fluent with AI tools in Buckets 1 and 2.
